New discoveries, cool projects, and excellent tips from inspired 4th and 5th graders

Teacher Feature #1: Mrs. Butler (First Grade)
What is your favorite subject? Reading
What is your best memory from elementary school? My mom and my teachers thought I was playing around while reading because it sounded like jibber jabber when I read aloud. They would raise their voices and say, “Stop fooling around and read right please!” Well guess what, I wasn’t fooling around – I couldn’t see! I went to the eye doctor and got glasses! What a difference – I could see! I LOVED reading after I got glasses! It was really nice to not have my mom and my teacher on my case anymore!
When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up? I knew I wanted to be a teacher since third grade. I wanted to teach high school or PE at that time.
What college did you go to? Slippery Rock University. It is near Pittsburgh, PA.
What is your favorite children’s book or chapter book? One of my favorite books is Amazing Grace by Mary Hoffman. I just love the message. I can be anything I want to be for sure! The characters remind me of my own family!
What is your favorite website? I don’t really have a favorite website. I love iTunes, though! DJ Butler must keep up with the latest hits!
What is your favorite (magic or lucky) number? My favorite number is 7.
What is your favorite color? Yellow
Beverly Hills Chihuahua was hilarious. If you didn’t see it, it’s very, very, very funny! My favorite parts were when Chloe was dressed in pretty clothes and when Chloe was in the desert and mountain lions were about to attack her. Then dust appeared and 2,000 little chihuahuas were in the dust and started to attack the mountain lions and scared them away. The 2,000 little chihuahuas took Chloe to their land.
Did you know that chihuahuas are Mexico’s national dog? …and they’re cute!

Book Birds are so very awesome because we get to read a novel then meet in a group with Mr. Winner. Then we talk about the novel, have snacks, and do things that actually happened in the book. While you’re there you also get to see your friends, and sometimes your teachers!
I just LOVE Book Birds!
